Directions: Holmsley Walk CP (map ref 210/993). Take A35 to pass East Close Hotel on right. Turn left at next road and then shortly turn right into Forest Road. CP approx 1 mile on right at bend. Please share transport if possible - if the CP is full it is possible to park on side of road.

This is a fairly level moorland and woodland walk with good views but the woodland paths can be muddy if we have rain - approx 3 miles.

It will be a walk and talk about the gypsies of the New Forest and we will be going to the old gypsy encampment via Magpie Green and then visiting the gypsy church at Thorney Hill.  I have arranged with Jenny Miles, the parish administrator, for her to open the church especially for us. It is a baroque arts and crafts type church and both the church and graveyard are very unusual. Inside there is a magnificent mural by Phoebe Traquair depicting scenes and people from the New Forest in addition to science and literary figures.
