Section members enjoy a choice of two walks of varying lengths each week, together with a yearly programme of social events and coach trips.  Participation in all activities including leading walks is actively encouraged.

JULY AMBLES

 

Wed. 3rd. -  Brock Hill C.P. Ref: 266/057  Leaders: Trish & David

Take A35 then at  Bolderwood / Rhinefield  crossing, turn Right into Rhinefield Drive. After approx. 0.25 of a mile Brock Hill C.P. is on your Right.   Slight undulation 

Approx. 3 miles.    Toilets at coffee stop.

 

Wed. 10th - Anderwood B.B.Q.  C.P. Ref: 248/057

NOTE: A walk will start at  10.30am  Leader: Christine

Take A35 towards Lyndhurst. After  Holmsley Junction take the Next Left Turning.   After approx. 1 mile   Anderwood C.P. is on your Right.   Slight inclines on walk.

B.B.Q. from approx. 12.30pm for those who have Pre - Booked.   Please don’t forget to bring chairs, plates, cutlery and drinks……Hopefully no Brollies will be needed…..!!!

 

Wed. 17th - Boldre Church [ St. Johns ] and Roydon Nature Reserve.      C.P. Ref: 324/994

Leaders: Pauline and Bob.

From Lymington take the A337 towards Lyndhurst.Continue for approx. 2.25miles and go past the Hobler Inn on your right, then in a further approx. 0.50 mile watch out for Signpost on your Right for Sandy Down and Boldre Church. Turn Right Here into Sandy Down lane [narrow in places] and continue for approx. 1.50miles to crossroads;  go straight ahead into Church Lane signposted Boldre Church 0.25 miles. 

Go past the Church [St.Johns] on your left and immediately turn Left onto gravel track to Church C.P. at rear. Please park at far side, away from Church.

The Church has a very interesting history and contains the only memorial collection of 'HMS Hood' which was sunk by the ‘Bismarck’.  Within the church yard there is an area dedicated to war graves from WW2.

This is a round walk; along hard paths; through woods and farmland with one gradual incline and involves some road walking at the beginning. We plan to visit the Church at the end of the walk and weather permitting have a picnicin and around the church yard.            Approx. 3.5 miles.

 

Wed. 24th -  Ibsley Common and Rockford Common.  Rockford C.P. Ref: 164/082

From Ringwood take the A338 [Salisbury Road]  After 1.7 miles turn Right, signposted Moyles Court.In approx. 1 mile, cross cattle grid and bear right, &then take 2nd Left turn at ’T’ junction. After 100 yards bear Right, & Right again up to C.P. on Left.      Approx. 3 miles.

 

Wed. 31st - Hatchet Pond, Hawkhill Inclosure & Hatchet Moor.  

Hatchet Pond C.P. Ref: 369/017   Leaders: Chris & John

Ta ke the A337 to Lymington. At traffic lights turn Right onto B3054 towards ferry and Beaulieu. Follow B3064 for approx. 4.7 miles. At the ’T’ junction with B3055, turn Left, entrance to C.P. is approx. 200 yards on the Left.    Moorland, Heath and inclosure paths, slightly undulating, may be muddy in parts if wet.          

Near site of Beaulieu Airfield and WW2 bomb construction site.      Approx. 3.7miles  Toilet.

Wed. 21st - Anderwood Cream Tea.   C.P. Ref:248/057

Take A35 towards Lyndhurst. After Holmsley Junction, take the NEXT Left turning. Anderwood C.P. is on the Right after approx. 1 mile.              

NOTE: A WALK WILL START AT 2pm. Leader: Christine

Undulating, easy walk.   Approx. 2.75 miles.

Cream Tea at approx. 4pm for those who have booked.   Please remember to bring chairs, plates, cutlery & DRINKS.

Wed 3rd - Kimmeridge (10.30 start)

Walk leaders Ann & Bryn Male

Meet for ramble at 10.30 at Old Quarry CP Kimmeridge, Ref 918/80

From Wareham take A351 towards Corfe. TR just before castle, signposted Church Knowle and Steeple and follow  narrow lane, TL to Kimmeridge just before Steeple. CP at top of hill on LHS is quite small so car share if possible. A hilly walk with some cliff edge paths with stunning views. Take a picnic.

 

Wed 10th - Anderwood Inclosure - BBQ and walk

Meet for ramble at 1000hrs at Anderwood CP, Ref: 249/057. Go north on A35 and turn sharp left about 3-4 miles after Holmsley junction onto Burley road. Anderwood CP is approx 1 mile on RHS. BBQ after for those that booked.

 

Wed 17th – Whitefield Moor Leaders Jane & David Dunsmore

Meet Whitefield Moor CP, Ref 274/027. (Toilets) On A35, TR into Rhinefield Ornamental Drive & CP is 2.5 mile on LHS.

 

Wed 24th – Ham Hill Country Park Leader – Nigel Hicks

Start 1030 (Allow >2hrs for journey)

Meet – Ham Hill Country Park, Stoke –Sub- Hamdon, Somerset, TA14 6RW. Pick up A31 at Ferndown, then A35 to Dorchester. Best to go through Dorchester (rather than bypass) to pick up A37 to Yeovil. Then follow signposts for ‘Stoke-Sub-Hamdon.’ (i.e. Turn L at junction on outskirts of Yeovil (A30) then R on to A3088. Then L and R in to Stoke-Sub-Hamdon. Ham Hill Country Park on LHS up a hill. Free parking & Toilets at rangers building. Beautiful views, some hills. Fantastic pub for lunch (Prince of Wales) which is only pub on an Iron Age Hill Fort. Or take picnic.

 

Wed 31st - Badbury Rings Leader - Alan Baldwin

Meet - Badbury Rings CP . Go north through Wimborne Minster and take B3082 passing Kingston Lacy House. Keep going straight along the avenue of trees for about a mile, until see brown sign pointing right into Badbury Rings CP

 

AUGUST RAMBLES

 

Wed 7th – Dorsetshire Gap, Ansty, 1030 Start (37 miles from Highcliffe) Allow a good 90 minutes plus to allow for traffic. Leader - Nigel Hicks

Meet - Fox Inn CP, Ansty. Take A31 past Wimborne towards Dorchester & head for Bere Regis. At roundabout by Shell garage, turn L towards Bere. After few 100 yds, turn R. Then, at roundabout turn R into Bere Regis. Continue through Bere Regis, then under duel carriageway to Milborne St. Andrew.

Go straight over cross roads at Milborne St Andrew to meet the A354 opposite the post office. Turn L, then immediately R, (signposted ‘Hilton’ & ‘The Fox Inn.’) Follow the ‘knife and fork’ signs and after just over a mile and a half or so, turn L (signposted ‘Ansty 3 miles’ & ‘knife and fork’ signs.)

Continue straight along road for approx 3 miles where you will see a sign on LHS in hedge for The Fox Inn.  Take L turn at cross roads (signposted ‘Dorchester’ & ‘Melcombe Bingham.’) Fox Inn is about 3-400 yds on LHS.

Stunning countryside in deepest Dorset. Gradual ascent to top of the Dorsetshire Gap. Superb views over Blackmoor Vale. Descending to site of a medieval village and to picturesque ancient church at Bingham's Melcombe. Lunch available in pub.

 

Wed 14th – Studland. Leader - Alan Baldwin

Meet - NT car park beside Banks Arms at Studland, Post Code BH193AU at 1030hrs

Via Sandbanks ferry, drive straight along the road for about 4 miles, passing Knowle Beach CP on LHS.  Then approx 1 mile on at start of Studland village TL & almost immediately TR at the pond. Go along this road for a few hundred metres & TR at T junction.  CP is approx 100m on RHS. This is a NT car park so if you are not a Member you will have to pay

Alternatively, via Wareham. Go along the A35 Upton Bypass & TL at roundabout at end of road towards Wareham. Carry on thro’ Sandford (beware of speed camera!) for a long way through Wareham & out the other side going toward Swanage. At Corfe Castle TL & continue for approx 7 miles until arrive at Studland village. Go almost thru village & Turn R at a triangular roundabout & immediately TR again at the pond.  Then as above.

It’s unusual to have to wear boots, just heavy trainers, unless the weather has been absolutely wet. I will be wearing trainers regardless. Walk is about 6 miles with one long climb. Bring lunch if you want otherwise you can use the Banks Arms (I think it’s very expensive).

 

Wed 21st - Anderwood Inclosure – cream tea and walk

Wed 28th  - Cranborne. Leaders - Carol & Terry Eden

Meet - Cranborne Village CP (free). OS Map 118 Grid Ref 057/132. On A31 just west of Ringwood take off slip and A3081 passing through Verwood. Pass Crane Valley Golf Club on L and ignore turn for Woodlands, turn next L by cottage. Continue to T junction & turn R onto the B3078 to Cranborne. Continue straight & pass Cranborne Garden Centre on L & slowly descend short hill into Cranborne Village. Pass The Inn, a pub on the R, and Fire Station on the L, & enter CP on the R by village school. If full, street parking close by. Lunch in the Sheaf of Arrows pub in village square.
